Is this the End for Auction.ph Employees?

Got surprise by the news about the Foremost online shopping mall in the Philippines, Auction.ph. Yes they are laying-off some of it's regular employees. Reasons behind is due to the US Financial Crisis. Duration of the Lay-off, the so-called 6-month-forced-leave will be this coming December 22, 2008.

So meaning, Christmas and New Year for Auction employees are in great chaos!

Hope that Auction.ph management can able to maintain yet overcome this huge dilemma.

Here's the advisory about the Lay-off.

My first Sony experience is with my Sony Betamax.

It was an experience marked by brief periods of disappointment and punctuated with feelings of ecstasy and triumph. It was a communal experience. It was an experience when boyish innocence was lost, only to be replaced by deeply-rooted bonds of brotherhood.

My first Sony Experience was also the first time I watched an R-Rated movie. With my hot-blooded cousins.

Our first Sony Betamax was massive, heavy enough to sink a small boat. The elephantine video cassette player sat squarely inside a wooden rack inside my parent’s bedroom. The player stayed immobile for years testing the structural integrity of a wooden rack custom-built using discarded parts of an old bed. The rack creaked, sighing from strain, every time we pushed the eject button. We had to buy a cheap, plastic Sonly rewinder because rewinding using the machine would cause mini vibrations enough to disintegrate the poor old rack.

Because it was practically bolted inside my parent’s bedroom, we could only watch pre-approved movies in the company of our parents. I remember watching Teen Wolf and Scott Baio’s Zap, especially the scene when everyone inside the campus magically lost their clothing. But I pretended to cover my eyes when that happened.

Because it was that heavy, I couldn’t smuggle the machine out of my parent’s bedroom.

And then my cousin’s spent a summer in our house. And that’s when we hatched our insidious plan. Our house, during summer afternoons becomes unguarded. It becomes a place without adults.

Because my cousins were sick and tired of a slam-dunking werewolf, they wanted to maximize that chance to see something a bit more risqué. For them, it was a rare chance when there was equipment available. Because when that time came when they had to go back to the province, they would have to settle watching a B&W TV set powered by their jeepney’s battery.

On that afternoon when boys became prurient boys, together with two of my cousins, we smuggled a Sony Betamax an R-Rated tape with Barbara Carrera and installed it in my bedroom with a 14” TV.

It was a splendid time and it was over in less than 5 minutes.

The Sony Betamax definitely gave significance in my life just like the Sony’s World’s First Smallest, Lightest and Slimmest Full HD Camcorder: TG1 Handycam, which my cousins and I can use to record our most memorable moments.

Google Pagsasalin

Can't wait to make a post bot this new tool of Google. It's called Google Pagsasalin. Its really good to know that google is making full efforts to reach Filipino market.Initially translation of english word to Filipino sounds very funny. But for sure it'll be better quite soon.

Here's an example, i tried translaying the word "friend" result is of course "kaibigan", but when i typed "friend of mine" google gave me the result "kaibigan ng minahan"

I almost disturb all my co-workers here due to terrible laughs.

But then, I still admire Google!

Try this new feature by visiting this Google Pagsasalin Link.
Have a great afternoon laugh guys!

Online marketplace revamps website

Manila, June 2008. Auction.ph, the foremost online shopping mall in the Philippines, revamps its website with a cleaner, more streamlined interface for easier user navigation. Cutting down the loading time for the homepage was also one of the major objectives in the redesign. Loading time was significantly cut down after the revamp by almost 80% from 15 – 20 seconds to 3 – 5 seconds.

“For the homepage, we decided to do away with excesses, like flash animation, and just concentrate on what the website is all about. It’s all about exciting merchandise and unique online events and promos,” says Ms. Jenny Kim, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Auction.ph.

Page loading time is crucial in regulating the bounce rate of the website. “Internet users can get very impatient and you can expect them to switch to another site if loading time takes too long,” adds Ms. Kim. “In relation to keeping our users glued to the site, we launched a new corner called the Fun Place. Visitors can check out the corner and enjoy the irresistible online games we have available.” The Fun Place has new online games like Match The Faces, Sudoku, and Mastermind.

Check out the new look and the new features by visiting www.auction.ph.

An Irrelevant Post for Today..

A good friend from SingTel emailed me this and never in my life have I read such a story. And here it is.

This is a story from University of the Philippines (Diliman) about a young
college girl who passed away last month.
Her name was Summera. She was hit by a dumper truck. She had a boy friend
named Arif. Both of them were true lovers. They always hung on the phone.
You could never see her without her cell phone. In fact she also changed
her phone from Smart to Globe, so both of them can be on the same network,
and save on the cost and get good network coverage. She spent half of the
day talking with Arif. Summera's family knew about their relationship.
Arif was very close with Summera's family. (Just imagine their love).
Before she passed away she always told her friends "If I pass away please
bury me with my hand phone" she also said the same thing to her parents.
After her death, people couldn't carry her coffin, I was there. A lot of
them tried to do so but still couldn't, everybody including me, had
tried to carry the coffin, the result is still the same. Eventually, they
called a Feng Shui Master. He took a stick and started speaking to himself
slowly.
After a few minutes, he said "this girl misses something here". Then her
friends told the Master about her intentions to bury her with her phone.
He then opened the coffin and places her phone and SIM card inside the
casket. After that they tried to carry the coffin. It could be moved and
they carried it into the van easily. All of us were shocked. Summera's
parents did not inform Arif that Summera had passed away. After 2 weeks
Arif called Summera,s mom. Arif:"I'm coming home today. Cook something nice
for me.
Dont tell Summera that I'm coming home today, I wanna surprise her." Her
mother replied..... "You come home first, I wanna tell you something very
important." after he came, they told him the truth about Summera.
Arif thought that they were playing a fool. He was laughing and said
"don't try to fool me - tell Summera to come out, i have a gift for her
Please stop this nonsense". Then they showed him her grave. He said...
"It's not true. We spoke yesterday. She still calls me.
Arif was shaking. Suddenly, his phone rang. "See this is from Summera,
see this..." he showed the phone to Summera,s family. All of them told him
to answer. He talked using the loudspeaker mode. All of them heard his
conversation. Loud and clear, no cross lines, no humming. It was the actual
voice of Summera & there was no way others could use her SIM card since it
was nailed inside the coffin. They were so shocked and asked for the Feng
Shuie Master's help again. The Master brought his co-masters to solve this
matter. He & his co-masters worked for 5 hours. Then they discovered one
thing...

Globe has the best coverage. Where ever you go, their network follows
(hehehehehehehe)!!!
...Wasted 10 minutes coz of this...It's your turn now ;-)

Its now or never!

While im checking my mail yesterday, one message from my inbox got my attention. Its a newsletter by HMR Auction Services, Inc. In contains all the items to be auctioned on a particular date.

This marketing strategy of HMR is really good to target a certain niche.
Isn't it a sign that even Live auctioning company is already starting to have a share of the online market? This is something to be watch for in the near future. And it will surely add a huge contribution to the e-commerce industry.

Needless to say, maybe few seasons from now all provincial bidders of HMR find themselves casting their bids using just their wifi-powered laptops. No one knows, the power of technology is really unpredictable.

I was able to write a pinch of information about HMR Auction Services, Inc. few weeks back. You can see it here

Calling all Auctioneers out there, expand your business by indulging into online Auctions. Well in fact its just an additional avenue for your potential customers to reach you. Better doing it now or else its too late.

One of a kind Bidding

I just want to share this auction story. happened few months ago in a birthday party of a friend. We ran out of pulutan, left was only a plate of barbeque, 5 sticks if i remember it correctly. Over a very few pulutan was 1 case of san miguel beer pale pilsen
. We are all drank and most of us were refusing to take another bottle. We are eight in the group including the birthday celebrator, Joseph.

Here is the scene, 5 bottles of beer are put in a huge-glass pitcher. using one tumbler (tagayan) all of us is ought to drink whenever their turn comes. With only few pulutan we decided to have a bidding game. " For one bite of the barbeque how many shot of beer can you consume"? I can drink half glass of beer for that one barbeque bite, I said. my friend Howard shouted "I can drink one glass for that pulutan"! surely my friend won the auction. He drank one glass of beer bottoms up just to have a bite of the pulutan. Everybody was so happy during that auction game. It came to a point that just to consume all the beers faster, for one whole-stick of barbeque my friend Ronnel drank 3 glasses of beer.

Did i mentioned while doing the auction for barbeque
, we still take a shot of beer each time our turns come?

Everybody was so happy...surprisingly no one vomits that night.

Auction.ph, the foremost online shopping mall in the Philippines, used to host series of free online selling seminar.

And of course to educate and inform aspiring online sellers or “cybermerchants” about the benefits and advantages of online selling.

And to give development of e-commerce; With increasing PC and internet penetration, a pledge of support from the government and the private sector, the e-commerce industry is poised to make a huge impact on the country’s economy. A recent study shows that there will be 24 million internet users in the Philippines by the end of the year. The explosive growth rate has attracted the notice of micro retailers prompting them to either expand their business online or completely shift from retail to online selling.

Online Auction for Beer Aficionados

I must admit that I’m a beer drinker but not the alcoholic type. Like me I am sure every man or even women out there have their reasons why they drink this liquid with an awful taste.

Some says, drinking helps them deal with problems. I agree to that but don’t get over-drunk or else another problem will strike you for sure.
For others, drinking helps them have a good time. Correct! But as I remember the last time I got dizzy with beer I ended up quarrelling with a taxi driver. Thats not the good time im expecting.

It is also true that Drinking is cool. Correct again! The image of a drinker is cool especially to the eyes of some ladies. But thinking twice, does having slurred speech & being clumsy is cool? Hehehe I don’t think so.

Wait, what the heck I’m saying here? I’m supposedly blogging about AUCTION , but why this Beer thing is entering my thoughts?
Aha...I remember there’s an ongoing online auction of vintage Beer here . Breweries and private collectors had donated their beers since the money will be given to a foundation I guess. You may want to join the online auction and win a bottle of cold vintage beer .

P.S. Im not drunk!

Alex Scandal

Some readers might find this post unfresh & irrelevant, but for Alessandra De Rossi's avid fans this is still worth to know.

October last year a terrible fight between Alex and his non celebrity boyfriend was caught on video. I'm just unsure if the local media has picked this story out. Or maybe i just missed it because i don't watch television nor read newspapers regularly. According to some viewers the video showed how angry-to-death the unknown guy with Alex. It is not confirmed if the fight is jealousy-driven or if the guy is under the influence of alcohol. But its clearly stated that no one was hurt during the confrontation.

Since last year the said video hits thousands of views from the number one video portal "You Tube". You may take a quick-look of the controversial video here .

Did You Know?

The word Auction indeed is really an interesting term. Im also puzzled where it came from. Thanks to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I was able to search its definition, terms related with it and a short history of Auction.

“ An auction is a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bid, taking bids, and then selling the item to the winning bidder. In economic theory, an auction may refer to any mechanism or set of trading rules for exchange.
There are several variations on the basic auction form, including time limits, minimum or maximum limits on bid prices, and special rules for determining the winning bidder(s) and sale price(s). Participants in an auction may or may not know the identities or actions of other participants. Depending on the auction, bidders may participate in person or remotely through a variety of means, including telephone and the internet. Auctions are generally funded by a fee paid by the seller to the auctioneer or auction company.”

And I found out that ancient Greeks are already practicing Auction Method. But the difference from its purpose is that during those times the used Auction for a condition of marriage. It started out way back 500 B.C. in Babylon. Again, many thanks to Wikipedia.

“ Auctioning can be traced as far back as 500 B.C.[1] According to ancient Greek scribes, the more generally accepted auction occurred first in Babylon in 500 B.C. During this period, auctions were held annually, and women were sold on the condition of marriage. It was considered illegal to allow a daughter to be sold outside the auction method. Women with “beauty” engendered higher bidding, women without “beauty” had to pay a dowry to be accepted into the auction, and thus the price would be negative.”

Interesting isn’t it? But its undeniably unfair for those ladies who haven’t blessed with beauty..

Wanted: Top Seller!

Who says you can not earn a living through online Selling?
Auction.Ph has proven this wrong. Introducing Top Seller Mr. Jerry Cleto, a.k.a. Gadget_World ". He earns a living by selling wide variety of items in Auction.Ph. But reaching what he is now is not an easy task. It took time for him to have this Top Seller reputation made into reality. For him, building a trust to customers is the most difficult part for start ups. First you need to establish good relationship with buyers. Once you made this relationship fruit full, thats where the success of your business begins. Comments from buyers is also a delicate part, in every transaction a buyer has this right of giving you a feedback. If your service is bad, of course you'll be getting a bad comment. But it you suffice a buyer, expect a very good and leg-pulling praises.

Income wise, though i don't have the exact figures of how much this guy is earning. But all i can disclose is that this guy has a monthly gross sales of 100,000 to million a month.

So, what are you waiting for? If you have this entrepreneurial interest, why not start investing time and small capital then manage your own online business.

P.S.
Gadget-World is selling wide variety of items such as:Prepaid card, cell fones, PSP, Laptop computers, Lcd screens, Shirts, bags, accessories and many more.

He also done a live TV appearance in a TeLe Radyo segment entitled "Radyo Negosyo ".

Your Protection for Online Transaction!

Have you ever heard of Escrow? If not? I hope this will give you a better picture.

From Wikipedia ,
"Escrow is a legal arrangement in which an asset (such as cash, real property or other tangible assets) is deposited into safekeeping (e.g. a bank account) under the trust of a neutral third party (escrow agent) pending satisfaction of contractual contingency or condition. Once the condition has been met, the escrow agent will deliver the asset to the party prescribed by the contract."

For Internet Escrow, Wikipedia defines that
"Escrow services are intended to ensure security by acting as a middle-man in transactions where the two parties do not trust each other. Rather than sending money or goods directly to the other party (which is insecure, as one or other party must send their item first, at the risk that the other party may not then send theirs), party #1 sends their items (X, usually money) to the escrow service, which holds them until the party #1 receives item Y, the service sends X on to party #2. If either party fails to deliver their part of the deal, X will be held at the escrow service and eventually returned to them."

Now, If you are still afraid of buying and selling online, Worry not because Auction.ph
is here equipped with its very own Escrow System. This one is a unique system that essentially protects all buying and selling transactions from potential risk of fraud. In short,Auction.Ph will keep all your transactions safe and secure.
Auction.Ph Escrow System serves as an intermediary and support for transactions between buyers and sellers upon closing of an auction or any type of buying and selling method. One of their main objective is to increase the level of safety and convenience of transactions among its members.

Heres how it works:
1. Buyer and Seller agree to use Auction.ph’s Escrow Service
To avail of Auction.ph’s Escrow Service, one has to be a registered member. Upon registration, prospective members will be asked to conform to the Escrow Agreement whereby the terms of the Escrow Service are stipulated. Once registered members (buyer and seller) conclude a successful transaction, they may already avail of Auction.ph’s Escrow Service.
2. Buyer pays Auction.ph
After a successful transaction (either auction, shopping, cooperative buying or bargains), buyer is requested to pay the full amount of the item/s to Auction.ph. The buyer may choose any of the following payment methods: (Internet Banking,Credit Card (soon to be available), E-money, Bills Payment, Gcash & Smart money)
When payment is received, it will be verified and secured by Auction.ph. After payment is secured, Auction.ph will notify the seller (through e-mail) to ship the item/s to the buyer, giving him the buyer’s shipping details.
Buyer has seven (7) days upon end of auction or selling transaction to settle payment of item/s with Auction.ph. If after seven (7) days, Auction.ph does not receive payment, transaction is considered cancel.

So worry-not to do transaction online because Auction.Ph Escrow System
is now here to protect you.

A Music Fone needs not to be Expensive!

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/7573/samsungi450xg4.jpg
It is true indeed that in the market there's a lot of cell phones which has music players, but not every music phone performed good in integrating the phone music controls into one device.
For a user-friendly music controls, which LG Muzig LX570 has is always a plus point, but for me an ideal music fone should have the capability to feature a convenient way to scroll a long list of tracks quickly.
Incomparable with iPhone
and a few other models, not many handsets have accomplished that feature.
Here's my bet, introducing SGH i450! It contains an attractive dual-slider design and easy-to-use controls. With its uniqueness, it also has a broad selection of multimedia features, satisfying call quality, and sharp music performance all make for a solid device. I guess Samsung deserves recognition for its recent SGH-i450 and theres a lot more for every music lover might expect.
You may check current price at this site
On a not so brighter side, SGH-i450 with its 2-megapixel camera, some buyers might find it not too impressive.
But still, i consider this music fone cheap in price over its unique features. (Bluetooth, Music Player, Internet Browser, Camera: 2 MP and up, FM Radio, E-Mail & 3G)
